At some point while organizing your trip, you will probably ask yourself which are the best hotels in New York. New York is a city with so many accommodation options that starting your search from scratch can feel exhausting, even for the most organized person.
It is also very important to know which areas are best to stay in, because the atmosphere changes completely from one neighborhood to another.
I know from personal experience that finding a good hotel in New York can be stressful. When I was planning our trip, I spent weeks comparing prices and reading user reviews. That’s why I decided to share the work I already did, so choosing the best hotel in New York becomes easier for you.
Below you’ll find my final list of good value-for-money hotels in New York, including the hotel we finally chose for our trip.
Best hotels in New York City
Before starting, I want to clarify that this hotel selection is based on quality-price ratio. These are not luxury hotels, but comfortable, well-located, clean hotels with good reviews and reasonable prices.
This is exactly what we were looking for: a hotel where we could have a good experience and feel confident about our choice, because finding affordable accommodation in New York is not easy.
Keep in mind that no matter where your hotel is located, you will need to use the subway, as distances in New York are very large.
1. POD Brooklyn Hotel (our chosen hotel)
This is the hotel we chose for one of our trips, and we would definitely stay here again.
POD Brooklyn Hotel is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a neighborhood with a great atmosphere, sometimes even better than Manhattan. It is known as the hipster area and is full of sustainable shops, good restaurants, and bars.
The subway station was less than five minutes’ walk away, and in under five minutes we could reach Manhattan.
The hotel facilities are modern and many rooms face an interior garden, so there is no noise from the city at night. Some rooms are small, but ours was large with a spacious bathroom. The mattresses were very comfortable.
The hotel has common areas with sofas and tables, and the staff is young and very helpful. We felt very comfortable staying here. Although this hotel chain has two other hotels in Manhattan, this one is the quietest.
It’s best to book early because it is very popular.
2. Cambria Hotel New York – Chelsea
This hotel is located in Chelsea, Manhattan, a modern neighborhood close to Chelsea Market. The area is quiet and very convenient for getting around Manhattan, with a subway station nearby.
The rooms are quite large, which is uncommon in New York. Many guests highlight the comfortable beds and good soundproofing, making it a great option if the price fits your budget.
3. Hilton Garden Inn NYC Financial Center / Downtown Manhattan
The Hilton in the Financial District is a reliable option with a good quality-price balance. If you’ve stayed at a Hilton before, you know the comfort and quality they offer.
We chose this hotel on one of our trips because it had a very good price compared to other Hilton hotels worldwide. It cost under €200 per night, which felt like a great deal.
The location is excellent, next to Battery Park and Wall Street. The rooms are spacious, well equipped, and include a fridge and microwave. We also had beautiful sea views from our room.
Booking early is recommended to get the best prices.
4. YOTEL New York Times Square
YOTEL New York Times Square has a great location, very close to Times Square. It is a modern hotel where check-in and check-out are mostly automated.
It is a good choice for families because it offers triple and quadruple rooms, which are hard to find in New York.
The rooms are small but well designed. The hotel focuses on cleanliness and guest comfort. Rooms on higher floors offer impressive views of the skyscrapers.
Note that luggage storage usually has an extra cost, which is common in New York.
5. Margaritaville Resort Times Square
This hotel stands out for its excellent guest reviews. It is located just a few minutes from Times Square and offers a more upscale experience, with several restaurants and a rooftop pool.
Staying here includes panoramic views of Manhattan and access to rooftop facilities. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well maintained.
The hotel staff speaks Spanish, which can be very helpful. While it is more expensive than the other options, the price is fair considering what it offers. Availability is limited due to high demand.
